Reportedly Celtic-bound goalkeeper Joe Hart congratulated Steven Gerrard on Rangers’ ‘awesome’ Premiership title win last season.
Hart has been linked with a switch from Tottenham to the Hoops in recent times and on Monday, the Daily Mail reported that a £1m deal had been agreed, with a medical set for Tuesday.
The 75-cap former England international has only left English football once during his playing career, for a 2016/17 loan stint at Torino from Man City, so he has no previous links to the Scottish game to speak of.
However, it hasn’t taken Rangers fans long to find a comment from Hart on social media that may well wind Celtic supporters up.
Back in March, after the Light Blues were confirmed as Premiership champions, Steven Gerrard celebrated with a post on Instagram.
The Gers boss uploaded two photos, one of the players celebrating at the Rangers Training Centre and another of the club’s 55 Champions graphic.
The post received close to half a million likes and thousands of comments and Hart was one of those to praise Gerrard.
“Congrats @stevengerrard awesome,” he wrote, followed by two clapping emojis.
Gerrard and Hart played together at international level, so it’s no great surprise that, at the time, Hart was pleased for his former teammate.
However, now that the pair look set to be rivals, he may be regretting the public nature of his message, and it would be no great surprise if Celtic’s media team advised him to delete it when his transfer is confirmed.
Meanwhile, former Rangers player Josh Windass and current skipper James Tavernier had a brilliant exchange on Twitter on Monday.
