Former Rangers player Josh Windass and current skipper James Tavernier had a hilarious exchange on social media on Monday.

Windass was sold to Wigan Athletic shortly after Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Ibrox but he played alongside Tavernier for two years at the club and they got on well together.

On Monday afternoon, now-Sheffield Wednesday attacker Windass called out his old teammate on Twitter in response to an SPFL post.

The account had tweeted footage of Scott Wright’s excellent goal against Livingston in Saturday’s Premiership opener, with Tavernier somewhat inadvertently setting up the former Aberdeen star with a header.

The 29-year-old had previously tweeted about getting two assists in the game and Windass wrote: “Are you claiming an assist for this @James_Tavernier” followed by three laughing emojis.

Tav responded just ten minutes later, writing: “One million percent. Great awareness”, accompanied by laughing and winking emojis.

Taking a trip down memory lane, Windass then added: “Like my assist for you at Partick away”.

The comment was referencing Tavernier’s goal in a league fixture at Firhill in February 2018 when Windass found the right-back with a simple pass before he bent in a brilliant effort from 25 yards.

Exchanges like these between players are relatively rare on Twitter and supporters enjoyed it, with the tweets racking up several thousand likes.

Windass has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation this summer, with as many as seven clubs reportedly interested in signing him.
