Italian outfit Atalanta have signed former Liverpool and Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel, effectively ending tiresome links to Rangers.
Since former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard took over in Govan, Skrtel has been routinely linked with a move to Ibrox.
But after joining the Serie A side, he’ll be gearing up for an assault on the Champions League instead he joined Serie A’s third placed finishers from last season.

Reports concerning Skrtel intensified after a Turkish journalist claimed Rangers had recently held a meeting with the defender.
Several Turkish media outlets would then report that a move for the former Slovakian international was “close” [Fanatik, Miliyet].
All of this was compounded by Skrtel claiming his representatives had met with Rangers earlier in the transfer window [Daily Record].
But Rangers fans have always been sceptical about the move with their suspicions proven correct after he joined Atalanta.
Rangers are already superbly well-stocked at centre half, with the signings of Filip Helander and George Edmundson supplementing Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic at the back.
The notion that Steven Gerrard would disrupt the competitive quartet with the signing of a 34-year-old Martin Skrtel on high wages seemed fantastical at best.
And now the claims and reports from Turkey have been proven so.
Martin Skrtel, as many of us believed, will not be joining Rangers this season. Instead, he’s heading to Italy.
