Reported Rangers target Joe Aribo netted the winning penalty as Charlton edged past Doncaster in a shoot-out to reach the League One playoff final.

The London club will be desperate to return to the English second tier and Joe Aribo has had a huge hand in making it happen. He also scored in the first leg’s 2-1 win away at the Rovers.

But after being beaten 3-2 at the Valley, the match was forced into penalties. And the 22-year-old kept his cool to score what was the shoot-out’s eventual winner after two other players missed.

Charlton were relegated to League One in 2016 and would love a shot at building towards the Premier League again.

The side last played in the English top-flight back in 2007 under the stewardship of Iain Dowie. Now under Lee Bowyer, they want to take one step back to get closer to the riches of England’s top division.

They will now play a play-off final against Sunderland on Sunday, who overcame Portsmouth to win a trip to Wembley.

But even if they do manage to make it to the Championship, reports suggest they’ll have to tackle the league without their talisman.

Rangers are said to be battling rivals Celtic and the likes of Manchester City of the highly rated player’s signature [Goal.com, Daily Mail].

The youngster’s contract is up at the end of the season and either Old Firm side would have to pay a low-risk nominal development fee for his signature.
