Reported January Rangers target and Burnley striker Matej Vydra hit an explosive winner for the Turf Moor side as they defeated Southampton away to St. Mary’s this weekend.

Vydra displayed superb technique to take the ball down on his chest before skipping past a defender and hammering the ball high into the net.

The goal turned out to be the all-important one in a 2-1 win for the Premier League outfit which has them 11th in the Premier League table.

Rangers were linked with a move for Vydra [Glasgow Times] on deadline day of the January transfer window.

The striker – who joined Burnley in a reported £11m deal in the summer of 2018 [Daily Mail] – was being primed as a replacement for Jermain Defoe.

The veteran Rangers striker has picked up a calf injury which means he will be ruled up for four-six weeks.

However, with Rangers hoping to complete a loan move for the player Burnley are said to have pulled the plug because they didn’t have enough time to find a replacement [Chris Boden].

The Ibrox side moved for Florian Kamberi of Hibs instead with the Swiss/Albanian forward now the 3rd choice striker in the southside of Glasgow.
