Premier League Everton are the latest name being linked to Kenyan international striker Michael Olunga, just a few weeks on from links to Rangers.

The Liverpool Echo have reported on “Everton transfer interest” in the prolific forward who is coming off the back of a blistering season with Qatari side Al-Duhail.

Michael Olunga netted an impressive 33 goals in 29 games this season and has an equally impressive record of 21 goals in 48 caps for the Kenyan national team.

Reports at the end of May had claimed that Rangers were competing with Galatasaray for the signing of the 29-year-old, who is out of contract in Qatar this summer.

But now Rangers – if they were ever interested in the striker – could face Michael Olunga competition in the shape of Premier League Everton, who narrowly avoided relegation last season.

The striker’s availability on a free contract will be of particular note to Everton fans, the club having been reported to an independent commission after alleged breaches of FFP rules.

Michael Olunga has also been directly responding to questions about his future, as quoted by the Echo, and the 6ft3 forward from Nairobi was giving little away.

“I can’t say so much because now at the end of the season for me, I take it as a good time to relax after a hard season for us in Qatar,” said Olunga.

“It was fantastic for me to win three top scorers (titles) in three competitions, I feel amazing, I feel I really did a good job.

“But normally I don’t like to speculate about things, I can only control what is in my jurisdiction, which is playing football.”

For all intents and purposes, Rangers also look to have moved on from any proposed interest in Michael Olunga in their pursuit of fresh firepower.

The latest reports suggest the signing of Atalanta forward Sam Lammers is imminent, whilst a move for Cremonese rival Cyriel Dessers is also said to be close.
