Reported £5m Rangers transfer delay could be down to mystery illness

A mystery illness could be the reason behind a potential delay in Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara exiting the club on a multi-million pound transfer this summer.

The Gers star, 27, will reportedly be the most high-profile player who will leave Ibrox this window, with reports in the Herald claiming Rangers will demand £5m for the Finnish international’s services.

But despite continuing links between Glen Kamara and the Rangers exit door, the Arsenal academy graduate remains an Ibrox player with some more advanced murmurs being quashed this week.

Reports that Leeds United were closing in on a deal have been rubbished, whilst Rangers boss Michael Beale revealed Glen Kamara will return to the club’s training centre this week after contracting a mystery illness.

Glen Kamara illness raises Rangers exit doubts

It’s this illness, and not transfer negotiations, which the Ibrox manager attributed as to why Glen Kamara did not travel to Germany for a training camp with his teammates last week.

“There’s been quite a few enquiries for Glen,” said Michael Beale.

“We gave him an extended break due to his international stuff in the summer and unfortunately he’s been ill the last few days so he didn’t come to Germany with us.

“He’s due to return to training in the coming days and that’ll be ongoing, the speculation.”

It’s also that mystery illness that has gotten plenty talking with some suggesting Michael Beale is just protecting Glen Kamara amid all the Rangers exit talk rather than actually communicating a genuine issue.

Others have suggested that Glen Kamara is throwing the football equivalent of a sickie, or as close to it, as the midfielder angles for a move out of Ibrox.

Whatever the case, the situation may well be at the heart of any hold up over a transfer out of Rangers and let’s see if when Glen Kamara recovers from the illness, those sounds about an exit get louder.
