Controversial whistler Willie Collum will referee the Betfred Cup Final between Rangers and Celtic.

The referee came under heavy fire from Rangers last season when he was criticised for sending Daniel Candeias off for blowing kisses against St. Mirren.

He will now take charge of the crunch Old Firm final, which is undoubtedly the biggest and most high-pressure game of the domestic season so far.

Collum will take charge of a match involving Rangers for only the third time since the Ibrox club released a stinging statement after “kissesgate” last year.

In it, Rangers claimed that it was “by no means the first time errors of judgement have been made” by Collum and claimed, “there is an underlying issue which requires to be addressed”.

Collum would then give a dubious penalty to Kilmarnock in the final game of last season – the first Rangers match he refereed in six months – much to the anger of Rangers supporters.

Willie Collum also took charge of the opening Rangers game of the Scottish Premiership season against Kilmarnock, which the Ibrox club won 2-1.

Collum’s assistant referees on the day will be David Roome and Alan Mulvanny, whilst Kevin Clancy will be the Fourth Official.
