But it seems that coaches David McCallum and Cameron Campbell resolved a few issues in time for the delayed start of the competitive action and the young Gers are now flying.

Following a pair of home victories over Kilmarnock and Dundee United, the U18s passed their first away test on Friday afternoon.

The damage was done in the first half in Edinburgh, with Lewis MacKinnon and Tony Weston netting for the visitors.

MacKinnon is an exciting defensive prospect who arrived at Auchenhowie in 2019 from Linfield’s academy. The 18-year-old has his sights set on making it to the first team in the future [Belfast Live] and important contributions like this at age group level will help his cause.

Weston will also no doubt be delighted to be off the mark for 2021.

Former Orange County SC goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes dropped to the bench for this game after making his debut in the previous match against Dundee United, while highly-rated former Glentoran talent Charlie Lindsay started.
