Five things we’ve learned from Rangers training video: where’s James Tavernier?

Rangers training camp in the Netherlands has kicked off with Philippe Clement in a good position to assess his squad.

The injury situation is as good as it has been for a long time and the manager will be looking forward to seeing how his team lines up in the first friendly of the tour after playing Hamilton at Auchenhowie last week.

The Rangers media team have been keeping fans updated with content and the first training sessions have raised a few questions.

Five things we noticed at Rangers training camp

Assessing the video that was posted on X, these are the five main takeaways:

Where is James Tavernier?

The skipper was on the plane to Eindhoven but, as yet, he’s not been seen on the training ground.

The 32-year old is the subject of intense speculation and has been linked with a reunion with Steven Gerrard

Danilo isn’t fully fit yet

The Brazilian striker is back in training with the squad, however, there has been no sign of him in full match play scenarios, just drills.

Hopefully, this is just a precaution and the final step in his road to recovery.

Clement has been more cautious with injured players so it may be that the gaffer is doing everything possible to avoid a relapse.

Nicolas Raskin looks sharp

With John Lundstram and Ryan Jack away, there is a space at the base of the midfield.

Connor Barron has been signed and he will be competing with the Belgian until there are any new arrivals.

Raskin, so far, looks good, with crisp passing, plenty of energy and a screamer hit into the top corner.

Oscar Cortes is back

The only winger that Rangers have signed this summer looked like the answer to the club’s creativity when he arrived in January.

Injury curtailed his season, but the early footage is very positive.

Comfortable on both feet, Cortes is, probably, the best ball carrier in the team outside of Todd Cantwell

Having him back is an instant upgrade in the starting XI.

Todd Cantwell showing no signs of distraction

Despite the posts on Instagram, Cantwell is looking as focused as ever.

The Gers playmaker can be his own worst enemy at times, however, the training videos paint him in a very good light.

There is no sign of petulance or attitude and he has a claim to be one of the most impressive so far – has the tide turned for Cantwell?

How Rangers line up when the transfer window closes will probably be entirely different to how it looks just now.

The biggest issue will be moving players on but, as Clement himself said, fixing the injury problem is the biggest issue at the club.
