Rangers top ten goalscorers for 2024 sees promising names emerge on the list

Rangers didn’t help themselves last season by running out of steam after Philippe Clement had led a title charge with a shortage of goals a key factor for not winning the Scottish Premiership title.

Not beating Celtic was another, with the 2024/25 campaign not showing any signs of improving, in fact, the abysmal away form has only made matters worse.

The manager has stumbled upon a shape and system that gets the best out of his squad, but it looks like it is too little, too late for Rangers.

Rangers Top Goalscorers 2024

Here are your top goalscorers for 2024 in what is a year that nobody with an affinity to the Ibrox outfit will want to remember.

Almost by default, Cyriel Dessers tops the charts.

Ronald de Boer has been proven to have described the Nigerian international perfectly when he said that the Rangers No.9 is either world class or amateur.

Unfortunately, the latter has been more prevalent since an early season purple patch.

Danilo is on a goal every 90 minutes this season with Hamza Igamane also on a promising strike rate of eight goals in 10.5 games in terms of minutes played.

The young Moroccan, 22, has already shown enough to suggest that he could make Rangers a lot of money in the future.

Comparisons to Didier Drogba might be premature, however, it looks like a fine piece of recruitment by Nils Koppen.

It’s just a shame that neither Danilo nor Igamane were ready to start when the season kicked-off, how different things might have been.

Another positive signing, has been the loan acquisition of Vaclav Cerny.

The Czechia international had a solid reputation and an £8m price tag over his head before joining from Wolfsburg.

With 10 goals and six assists already, Koppen should be trying to do what he couldn’t with Abdallah Sima and negotiate a permanent move.

As a third choice striker, Dessers is fine, there is an issue with depth on the wings though with both Ianis Hagi and Nedim Bajrami filling in.

After a decent start, Bajrami has found himself on the bench in recent weeks and could do with rediscovering the spark that made him an instant hit with fans.

The two key areas where Rangers need more goals from

There are two main, and obvious areas of concern.

The first, is defence.

When Rangers won the league in 2020/21, the whole defence chipped in with goals. This season, James Tavernier has three to his name with the rest yet to score.

John Souttar hasn’t scored since April and the problems from set-pieces are well known.

Then there is the midfield.

Mohamed Diomande is the only midfielder to score this season with three to his name.

Bajrami scored in the Premier Sports Cup final as an attacking midfielder, but there needs to be a much bigger contribution from deeper areas.

It’s frustrating to look across the city and see Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Arne Engels all scoring goals.

The strikers can’t do it all on their own, nor should they be expected to.
