Cyriel Dessers continues to puzzle Rangers fans and Scottish football pundits – as does the club’s transfer business.
The Nigerian striker has been an enigma during his time at Ibrox, frustrating with many of his displays but continuing to put his head above the parapet. He doesn’t shy away from the pressures placed on him as a Rangers frontman and doesn’t let any criticism get him down.
And, it must be said, he as scored a decent amount of goals for the club. In just over one season, he has hit the net 29 times and ordinarily it would be hard to argue with that number.
But the frustration is that he could have had plenty more, particularly in big games where he has missed big chances, including in Old Firm derbies. And some of his general performances have been let downs too, with fans vocalising their opinions.

Rangers told to sign ‘prolific’ forward’
It was thought Gers might target a striker in the summer transfer window, with Lawrence Shankland the one often mooted. Hamza Igamane was signed but he is a young player who will drfit in and out of the side, and may also play wide at times.
No out-and-out established centre forward was brought it and Dessers remained the first pick despite rumours he could even be on the move.
But Craig Moore reckons a profilific frotnman is needed in January.
The former Ibrox defender told The Go Radio Football Show: “I think that definitely another striker is needed.
“I think it was needed in the previous window and I still believe from what I’ve seen that it’s needed in the next window for Rangers to be competitive.
“There’s a long way to go in the season, but Dessers, does he seem to be the type that can go on a run of a full season? He hasn’t shown that.
“He’s honest, but he doesn’t score enough for me and for a club like Rangers I think a striker needs to be scoring consistently more goals so it’s definitely an area that Rangers need to improve on.
“It might not be someone that is taking his place, but it needs to be someone prolific.”
Dessers’ Rangers record
Dessers is often maligned and it is plain for everyone to see that he does miss plenty of chances. But should that be forgiven if he still scores as much as he does?
Last season, he hit 13 from 30 appearances in the Premiership, two in Europe, one in the Viaplay Cup and three from four games in the Scottish Cup.
So far this campaign, he has six from 11, three in the league and three in the Premier Sports Cup.
