Rangers are reportedly about to make centre-back Connor Goldson amongst the club’s highest-paid players – and for a player of the big man’s quality any prospective new deal represents great value.
Over Connor Goldson’s three years in Scotland, the towering centre-back has matured into the country’s leading centre-half and a pillar for the Ibrox club.
For many, the defender is the rock on which 55 has been built and his commanding defensive performances are matched only by his imposing style.
Not only that, but Connor hasn’t missed a second of football in the club’s most important campaign of all and will go down in Rangers history as one of the key reasons why the Gers secured this title.
Signed for a reported £3m from Brighton in 2018, Goldson was one of the first and most significant signings of the Gerrard era.
In little under three years, this Ibrox goliath has played some 158 games at Rangers and his presence at the heart of the defence is part of the identity of this Gers side.
According to Football Insider, Goldson is close to agreeing a new contract at Ibrox which will tie him to the club until 2024.
This backs up earlier reports by the Daily Record that the big man was set to sign with the FI report believing the defender is set to earn £30k per week making him amongst the highest earners at the club.
According to that report, the deal will see Goldson commit himself to Ibrox until 2024 in a £4.5m move which follows the deals involving Steven Davis, Leon Balogun, Allan McGregor and James Tavernier.
There surely won’t be much better money spent in Glasgow over the next three years with Goldson’s contract extension a major piece of business as the club prepares for the Champions League and a drive for 56.
A deal for Goldson isn’t the only one the Gers are reportedly set to complete a move for a rapid international striker currently plying his trade in Belgium.
