Rangers are closing in on a transfer deal for rapid Zambia international striker Fashion Sakala, according to the Daily Record.

The Gers have been linked with Sakala, who plays for KV Oostende in Belgium, for many months.

The Sun reported in February that they were favourites to land the 24-year-old ahead of a number of English clubs but links died down until Voetbal reported earlier this week that the player favours a switch to Ibrox.

Now, the Daily Record have claimed that the Light Blues are in ‘advanced talks’ with Sakala and ‘look set to land their man.’

It’s stated that a long-term contract is on the table and Rangers may need to offer substantial wages as the likes of Ligue 1 giants Lille are also reportedly keen on the KVO star.

However, given that there’ll be no direct transfer fee involved as Sakala’s current contract is nearing an end, it would still be a bargain swoop.

The 5 ft 10″ striker has pace to burn and an eye for goal, with the latter evidenced by his impressive return of 13 goals from 28 Belgian First Division appearances this season.

Sakala began his career in his native Zambia with Nchanga Rangers and then Zanaco, before moving to Belgium in 2018 following a stint in Russia with Spartak Moscow’s feeder team.

Rangers may well see Sakala as a replacement for veteran striker Jermain Defoe, whose Ibrox contract expires at the end of the season.

In other news, a Rangers loanee will join a rival Premiership club on a permanent deal in the summer.
