James Tavernier’s future at Rangers has been a topic for discussion over the last few years.
The on-field performances of the club captain have come into question, but he continues to retain the support of the managers and starts more games than he sits out.
Despite being 34, Tavernier’s fitness has been impeccable, and his injury record is something that has been working in his favour.

James Tavernier taking it one day at a time
After the 1-1 draw against Motherwell, Tavernier was asked about his future at the Ibrox outfit and his contract situation.
His deal at Rangers runs out at the end of the season, as he signed a four-year deal way back in 2022.
He did not want to commit to one answer and stated that he is taking it one day at a time and is not rushing into a decision.
In his view, the aim was to win as many trophies as possible this season, and that is something he is focused on rather than his contract.

He said: “I take it day by day. If my wife says something about next week about planning, I say, that’s too far ahead for me.
“It’s always about the day, today, and then I wake up tomorrow, and then I’ll go from there.
“But I’ll always continue giving my utmost, for the club and obviously for my family. The aim at the start of every season is obviously to get as many medals as you can, and nothing has changed.”

Will Rangers hand Tavernier a new deal?
Tavernier’s influence is imperative not just on the pitch, but off it as well.
While he has slowed down and is prone to defensive lapses, his contributions to the team are more positive than negative.
Every manager who has arrived at Ibrox has spoken about his professionalism and commitment, and the dressing room needs more players like him and not fewer.
Unless there is a major falling out with Danny Rohl or the club hierarchy, there is no reason why Rangers will not hand him a new deal.
He is currently understood to be on £30,000/week wages, which means that a one-year deal would see the club committing to pay around £1.5m.
That should be a steal even if he is not viewed as a first-team regular.
