Rangers are being tipped to make a profit on Finland international Glen Kamara after a rake of clubs were linked to the player, according to one of his former coaches.
Jimmy Boyle, who was head of youth development during Kamara’s time at Dundee, claims he believed Arsenal academy graduate Glen could play at a much higher level from his first training sessions at Dens Park.
Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Boyle claims Kamara could go on to play at a level higher than Scotland and that Rangers will make a substantial profit on the player.
Rangers signed midfielder Kamara, 24, from Dundee in the January of 2019 for a reported £50k fee after he signed a pre-contract for the summer.
“When Glen came in Neil said to me: ‘What do you think?’” he recalled. “I told him: ‘He can play at a much higher level’. I don’t actually know how Neil managed to get him,” said Boyle.
“Straight away, we felt he could go on to greater things. He was an excellent footballer.
“He got on the ball all the time, he read the game well, he didn’t give away possession, he was a good team player and, on top of all that, he was a great lad as well.
“I would love to see him kicking on again somewhere else at some point in time. I fully believe he has got the technique and the mentality.
“But that will be up to Glen. If he wants to then I am sure he can do it.
“Rangers will definitely make money on Glen if they decide to sell him. But at this present moment in time they won’t be thinking like that.
“They will be keen to keep him with it being such a big year for them. They are top of the league and they will want to stay there. They won’t want anybody to go.”
Kamara has impressed at both club level with Rangers and international level with Finland this season, the midfielder taking his game to the next level for the Ibrox club.
Such has been the success of the player’s early performances this season up to 13 clubs including the likes of Everton, Southampton and Leeds United in the Premier League have been linked [TEAMtalk].
German giants Borussia Dortmund and Ligue 1 side Lille are amongst the other clubs linked with a move for the midfielder who has over two years to run on his current Gers contract.
Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard has previously pleaded with the Rangers board to step up their efforts to tie the midfielder down on improved terms.
