Rangers target in Premier League opening amid reports of £12m deal

Reported Rangers target Tim Iroegbunam could be set for a first-team shot with Aston Villa amid reports Burnley are closing in on teammate Jacob Ramsey.

The Athletic are reporting that Vincent Kompany’s newly promoted side are in talks over £12m deal for Aston Villa midfielder Ramsey, who was given a first-team shot under Steven Gerrard.

And as the transfer sounds around Tim Iroegbunam get quieter – Rangers having been linked way back at the start of the window – there could now be a place in Unai Emery’s Aston Villa squad open for him to step into.

Rangers were linked with a loan move for talented midfielder Tim Iroegbunam earlier in the summer but since the initial reports broke there has been little more information in the press.

Michael Beale had claimed heading into the window that several of the club’s signing would have a familiar feel with Dujon Sterling joining after working with the Rangers boss at Chelsea.

Former Ibrox defender Leon Balogun, who also worked with Michael Beale at QPR, is another with strong ties to the Rangers boss who has joined the club this season.

Whilst Michael Beale did initially claim that Rangers would not be raiding QPR this summer, specifically amid links to out-of-contract Chris Willock, Tim Iroegbunam represented an interesting option.

A young player with future Premier League pedigree, Michael Beale signed the player on loan for QPR last season and for all intents and purposes, appears to have a good relationship with the 20-year-old.

But after a season in the Championship all the transfer sounds around Tim Iroegbunam have gone quiet with the youngster only appearing once for Aston Villa in pre-season, in a friendly draw against Walsall.

Youri Tielemans has also joined Aston Villa this summer, and the likes of Boubacar Kamara, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn are all in front of Tim Iroegbunam in the pecking order, so there is some intrigue around what happens next for the midfielder.

Gametime might be limited at Aston Villa this season but with Jacob Ramsey set to exit the club, Tim Iroegbunam may well have his sights set on adding to his eight Villa Park appearances.
