High-profile Rangers target Ryan Kent started a pre-season friendly for Liverpool against Tranmere with the Anfield club romping to a 6-0 victory.

Whilst Kent didn’t score any of the goals, he would’ve enjoyed the run-out in Liverpool red off the back of a superb season at Ibrox.

But what does it mean for Rangers’ pursuit of the player?

Should Kent be seen to be an important part of the Liverpool squad this season then Steven Gerrard can probably forget signing him for another year on-loan.

But with so many Liverpool first-teamers still on a break from last season, Kent has been propping up the squad in pre-season.

It is difficult to see how he fits into Jurgen Klopp’s plans when the first-team forward line has been given extended leave.

That said, a report yesterday suggested Klopp had rebuffed approaches from Rangers and Leeds Utd for the winger [Mirror].

Conflicting reports have also suggested that Rangers have first-option on the player [STV] should the German decide he is surplus to requirements this year.

That is also said to rely on another side failing to stump up a permanent transfer fee for Kent this season.

So whilst the talented 22-year-old was turning out for the Anfield club against Tranmere last night, it remains unclear where his future lies for the season ahead.

As Steven Gerrard suggested, the decision remains “in Liverpool’s hands”.
