It was a story that came out of nowhere in the midst of a week where attentions were elsewhere and the future of Philippe Clement at Rangers was at the forefront of any conversation.

When the San Francisco 49ers takeover attempt broke, all eyes turned to what might happen next and whether or not the reports were true.

Dave King has dampened spirits by breaking his silence about how the potential deal came about and how far along the line it is, but it sounds like the former Rangers chairman might not be being entirely truthful.

49ers consortium takeover of Rangers already well making progress

According to Jordan Campbell of The Athletic, who was previously the Rangers correspondent, sources close to the deal have revealed that the deal is “well baked”.

King has also contradicted himself too, claiming that there is a lot of work still to be done but at the same time detailing almost every step that he has taken to get the relevant parties to the table.

He almost couldn’t help himself by claiming that the process was well under way and that a deal is in the advanced stages.

King has never been the shy and retiring type after all.

What is the latest on the takeover timeline?

The timeline has been a fast moving one.

First the news of the bid broke of Paraag Marathe’s involvement which then threw in the complication of the ownership of Leeds Utd by the 49ers Enterprises group.

They would be restricted to 29.9% ownership, however, with other members of a consortium, this can be taken to over 50% to skirt these rules.

The next hurdle is/was the SFA, but this has also been ratified already, if reports are to be believed.

Talks of a protracted deal were also put to bed when an April to June deal completion date gave fans an exciting glimpse into the future and Andrew Cavanagh emerged as the key player in negotiations.

With new information emerging on an almost hourly basis, it’s almost a shame that there is a game of football to get out the way.
