Rangers have chosen to appeal the suspensions doled out to the so-called Covid Five as the club take the fight over the incident to the SFA [Sky Sports].
Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey, Bongani Zungu, Brian Kinnear and Dapo Mebude were all given six match bans for their role in a lockdown breaching party in February.
Four of those matches are to take place this season whilst two have been suspended until the next campaign.
As it stands the players are set to miss the tie with Cove Rangers (April 4th), Hibernian (April 11th), St Johnstone (April 21th) and the Scottish Cup fourth round, should the Gers make it.
The incident garnered national attention with a dramatic fall-out leading to the players being fined and eventually apologising for the situation. This was accepted by the club.
Since then both Nathan Patterson and Bongani Zungu have played for the club with young right-back Patterson deputising in the absence of captain James Tavernier.
The Ibrox skipper continues to struggle with a knee injury and the 19-year-old full-back has impressed in Tavernier’s absence.
Patterson even came off the bench Royal Antwerp in the Europa League last 32 to score a pivotal goal in the Ibrox leg in the eventual 9-5 aggregate victory.
Bongani Zungu has made multiple appearances from the bench since the incident but he is yet to start a match in the aftermath of the breach.
The decision to appeal the ban also comes after Rangers duo Jordan Jones and George Edmundson were given seven match bans for a similar breach in November last year.
With both of them out on loan, one of those players was named the Man of the Match this weekend as he continues to inspire his adopted side’s promotion push.
