Polarising Rangers winger Jordan Jones came out on top against fellow loanee Brandon Barker as Sunderland defeated Oxford United to maintain their impressive form in English League One.

Jones, 26, has impressed since joining Sunderland in January and has been working to get his career back on track following high-profile off-the-pitch incidents at Ibrox.

The Northern Ireland international hasn’t played for Rangers ever since he breached Covid-19 protocols alongside George Edmundson earlier in the season.

The winger started the 3-1 win over 10-man Oxford United and was even named Man of the Match for his influential performance.

Jones has two goals and four assists for the Stadium of Light club and he is a popular figure amongst the side’s supporters.

Lining up on the other side was ex-Man City winger and fellow Rangers loanee Brandon Barker who also moved to League One on loan in January.

Barker, 24, played the entire game and was even booked in the match and the pacey wide man also continues to impress down south.

The winger has netted two goals and laid on three assists for Oxford since joining the club at the midway point of the season but was powerless to resist as Sunderland secured the points.

The result leaves Sunderland 3rd in League One in the hunt for automatic promotion with Oxford in mid-table in 11th place, 14 points behind the Black Cats.

Meanwhile, one £15m club captain currently plying his trade down south is set to leave his current club in the summer amid links to Rangers.
