Rangers are assessing goalkeeper Allan McGregor following an “injury scare” in training ahead of the club’s crunch Scottish Premiership clash with Hearts.
That’s according to the Scottish Daily Mail [print edition 25/01/20: p.123] who claim that the legendary Ibrox goalkeeper was given treatment after he appeared to “fall awkwardly”.
The newspaper claims that it is not yet clear if the incident means the keeper’s place in the squad for the trip to Tynecastle is under threat.
The Scottish Daily Mail story also includes a photograph of the incident with 37-year-old veteran stopper McGregor down clutching his leg.
As of yet, there has been no official suggestion from Rangers that the keeper will miss tomorrow’s tie with Hearts and fans will retain hope that this was just a minor bump in training.
Whilst an injury to Allan McGregor might be a big blow for Rangers, the club can also call on back-up keeper Wes Foderingham.
Wes was back between the sticks for the visit of Stranraer and whilst he was delighted with the opportunity spoke candidly about his future at Ibrox.
The Englishman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and his future is as of yet undetermined.
But the fact Wes revealed that Steven Gerrard was willing to keep the stopper around [Herald] is a testament to his ability as a keeper.
So if this Allan McGregor “injury scare” does rule him out of the Hearts match, Rangers will take solace in the fact they have Wes Foderingham waiting in the wings.
