Back-up Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham might’ve admitted his time at Ibrox could be up come to the end of the season [Herald], but that doesn’t mean Rangers want him to move on.
The former Swindon stopper has spent the last two years on the bench as Allan McGregor’s formidable form between the sticks has kept the Englishman out of the side.
But in admitting his frustration at a lack of playing time at Ibrox, Wes also revealed that Rangers have admitted they want to keep him around.
“My deal’s up in the summer. I’ve had informal talks with the club but, ultimately, I want to play, so I think we’ll get this window out of the way and see where we are,” said Fods [Herald].
“The manager spoke to me earlier in the season, we haven’t spoken much since then.
“He said to me ‘if you want to stay around, then we’ll be glad to have you around, if you want to move, then we’ll see what we can do’.
“He’s happy to have me here as long as I’m happy to be here.”
The fact Steven Gerrard would have no issues with Foderingham staying is a testament to both his playing ability and his role and influence around the club.
Signed under Mark Warburton in 2015, Foderingham its one of the club’s longest-serving players alongside James Tavernier and Andy Halliday.
He has played close to 150 times for Rangers and is known to be an influential figure in the background at the club.
With Allan McGregor recently signing a contract extension Fods may well move on to get first-team football, but even if he stayed, Rangers would retain a useful goalkeeper and a proper role model too.
