Rangers striker Morelos has more goals than Ronaldo this season

He may be the pantomime villain at every ground in Scotland other than Ibrox, but it’s time people started recognising just how good Alfredo Morelos is.
At 22, he is still immature and petulant.
Being sent off three times against the same opposition in a single season is frankly ridiculous, no matter how much you may disagree with the decisions.

Yet, it’s his goalscoring exploits that should really get the majority of the acclaim.
Obviously, he needs to learn to behave himself. But, Rangers are only in a position to challenge because of his goals.
With a brace last night, he took his
tally in all competitions to 23 in 39 matches for club and country.
It’s already considerably more than he managed in during his first season at Ibrox.
Clearly, he is now the best striker in Scotland. That’s backed up by both stats and performance levels.

However, it’s worth looking around to put the Colombian’s achievements into perspective.

Morelos among the top scorers in Europe

Since his move to Juventus this summer, multiple Balon D’or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, has scored 19 goals in 30 games.
Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez, has 18 in 33. Mohammed Salah, 19 in 33.
Brazil captain and £200m PSG signing Neymar, is level with El Buffalo, after 28 matches.

Of course, this isn’t to suggest that Morelos is equivalent to these players.

Clearly, none of those listed above have played as many matches as him, and they come up against far stronger defences on a weekly basis, than those encountered in the SPL.
Still, though, it evidences just how excellent his form has been.
We’re not suggesting Alfredo can only leave for £200m plus, but this all shows how laughable reports of £8m bids last month truly were.
