Rangers star Cedric Itten has been dropped from the competitive Switzerland international team squad ahead of their upcoming internationals.

The big Swiss striker, 23, was involved during the last international break in October but will miss the nation’s matches against Belgium, Spain, and Ukraine.

The Switzerland national side have a wealth of attacking talent in their ranks and this time the £2.5m Rangers summer signing from FC St. Gallen narrowly misses out.

Benfica striker Haris Seferovic, Dinamo forward Mario Gavranovic and Borussia Mönchengladbach star Breel Embolo make the cut alongside an array of talented wide players.

Celtic’s £5m signing Albian Ajeti also misses out with both players tasked with getting minutes at either Old Firm club to enhance their international chances.

Rangers fans will see this as a boost to their chances with Cedric Itten now set to remain at home whilst players jet off around the globe in the middle of a pandemic.

This reduces the risk that one of the club’s players will return to the Rangers Training Centre with a positive Covid-19 test or with an injury.

Itten was praised by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard in the aftermath of the club’s 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock with the hard-working striker named as the Ibrox manager’s “Man of the Match“.

So far Cedric Itten has made 11 appearances for Rangers (three as a starter) scoring two goals, both against Motherwell.

Itten has four caps and three goals for his country, his most recent appearance coming as a substitute in a pulsating 3-3 draw with Germany.
