Rangers starlet Cole McKinnon netted his second brilliant goal in just five days in the B team’s 1-0 win over East Stirlingshire on Saturday.

The Young Gers have made an outstanding start to their Lowland League campaign following their controversial entry into the league for one season only.

David McCallum’s side defeated Bo’ness United 2-0 at the Rangers Training Centre on the opening weekend before beating The Spartans 2-0 at Ainslie Park on Tuesday night.

On Saturday afternoon, they made it three out of three, with a 1-0 win over East Stirlingshire, with Cole McKinnon’s ‘fantastic strike’ just before the interval the difference between the two sides.

McKinnon is primarily a defensive midfielder who doesn’t usually have much of an impact at the top end of the pitch.

His stunning opener against the Spartans just a few days previously was his first goal for ‘about three years’ and he joked that it could be his ‘first and last’ in the league [RangersTV].

Yet, it seems he’s developing a taste for match-defining contributions, and this latest goal was a clean strike following a Tony Weston lay-off.

The three points moved Rangers B to the top of the table, with their superior goal difference ensuring that they are above Dalbeattie star, the only other team with a perfect record.

It’s a very encouraging start from the squad and particularly so for McKinnon.

After a productive first senior loan spell at East Fife during the second half of last season, he’s taking responsibility in this team and no matter what your position, a knack for scoring important goals can never be a bad thing.

The first team are in action on Sunday evening against Real Madrid and a superb RangersTV lineup has been confirmed for the match.
