Rangers star wanted for £3m link-up with Man City legend – report

Rangers forward Fashion Sakala has been linked with a move to English Championship Burnley and a link-up with Man City legend Vincent Kompany.

The former Belgium defender and Anderlecht manager has taken over at the newly-relegated club and has a hard act to follow coming in after the 10-year dynasty of Sean Dyche at Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany is well aware of Sakala from his time back in Belgium, the Zambian international playing for KV Oostende during the manager’s time with the Paars-wit.

According to the Scottish Daily Express, Burnley are “firmly” in the market for Fashion Sakala and could launch a £3m bid for the player a year after the forward joined Rangers.

Sakala, 25, played in 50 matches for Rangers last season – mostly from the bench – and had a decent return of 12 goals as he began to settle into Scottish football.

But this campaign the forward is yet to be played by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and was an unused substitute in the Champions League qualifiers against USG and in the Premiership win over Livingston.

There have been plenty of Fashion Sakala exit links this summer too, with Ligue 1 Auxerre extensively linked alongside La Liga pair Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo.

Finding himself out of a competitive side at this stage in the season, there’s nothing from within Ibrox to suggest that the player is exit bound.

But Burnley are the latest club to be linked to Fashion Sakala even if there has been “no contact” according to Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane.

Sakala himself has previously spoken about his future at Rangers this summer, claiming that he has no interest in going out on loan and that he will seek clarification from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the coming weeks.

The forward is adamant that if he isn’t playing or not part of the manager’s plans then there is little point of him being in Glasgow.

“Obviously I am very happy to be here,” said Sakala, in quotes which appeared in the Daily Record.

“All this talk about loans? I don’t think I can go on loan. I am not looking at loan moves

“There is no need for me to go on loan because my first season was not bad. I scored 12 goals in all competitions and that was my adaptation season.

“Now I have to prepare myself to do better this season.

“If I hadn’t got the chance last season or if I had not scored a single goal then I would have said: ‘Okay, I need to make a move, I need to go’. Because for me, I can be here at this big club, but if I am not playing then it does not mean anything.

“I haven’t had a meeting with him (van Bronckhorst). But I think they had a meeting with my manager and he said he wants me, he wants me to be part of the club.

“I am expecting a meeting any time soon and I hope to hear his views. This is something I am looking forward to because we are starting a competition and I want to know where I am standing because I don’t know at the moment.”

As things stand Fashion Sakala remains a Rangers player and it is not clear if Man City legend Vincent Kompany and English Championship Burnley will move to change that.

Meanwhile, Rangers have announced the exit of another first-teamer who has struggled to break into the side.
