Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has undergone a medical at Hull City with a view to moving to the English League One club.

According to Hull Live, Ex-Hamilton midfielder Docherty underwent the medical yesterday afternoon with a view to signing on at the KCOM Stadium.

The report echoes the claims of the Herald which suggest Rangers will recoup £400k for the player, £200k less than the £600k the club reportedly spent on Docherty in January 2018.

The Hull Live report believes that Docherty has signed a three-year deal with the Tigers as they hope to bounce back up to the Championship following their relegation last season.

Midfielder Docherty, 23, moves to the former Premier League side as they look to beef up the middle of the park following the loss of Jackson Irvine, Jon Toral, Kevin Stewart and Herbie Kane this summer.

Last week Steven Gerrard admitted Hull City wanted the player saying the club had granted Greg “permission” to speak to the player [Sky Sports].

In the same interview, Gerrard claimed Docherty would not be loaned out having already “done that road”.

The move also comes after Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said it was “not going to work” for Docherty at Ibrox.

“It’s not going to work for Greg at Rangers so we are waiting on his decision,” explained Gerrard [Scottish Sun].

If the move goes through, Docherty will be the second bluenose to vacate Rangers this week after Ross McCrorie shocked fans by moving to Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

Box-to-box midfielder Doc has previous experience in the English third tier having spent a successful season on-loan at Shrewsbury in 2018/19.

The player’s most recent loan move was at Scottish Premiership Hibs last season and should Docherty move on as expected, the club’s fans will wish him every success in the future.
