Rangers striker Jermain Defoe is set to be ruled out for a minimum of four or five weeks, leaving the veteran forward understandably feeling “a little down”.
That’s according to Steven Gerrard who revealed the scale of the striker’s injury as he looked ahead to this weekend’s match with Aberdeen.
Saying that a period of four to five weeks is the “best-case scenario” for the 37-year-old striker, Gerrard admitted this has launched Rangers into the transfer market.
“Defoe is a little bit down at the moment after the injury which is natural, we are looking at around 4/5 weeks best-case scenario,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“We will do everything we can to get him back. We will look to add a striker.”
Jermain Defoe’s injury comes after the former Spurs striker went down clutching his leg in the 2-0 win over Ross County.
The veteran striker was eventually stretchered off and unfortunately, the calf injury will rule the striker out for a key part of the season.
Rangers are preparing to go down to the wire against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race and the striker’s injury comes as a considerable blow in the club’s quest for trophies.

Jermain Defoe has been a more than capable backup striker for Alfredo Morelos, with the legendary striker’s 17 goals coming in only 14 starts [Transfermarkt].
Rangers are reportedly lining up a loan move for Burnley’s Czechian striker Matej Vydra [Glasgow Times] as cover for the striker following the injury.
