Rangers defender George Edmundson has been speaking about his cameo performance for the Ibrox club as they defeated Old Firm rivals Celtic at Parkhead.

The former Oldham defender described the victory as “one of my best days” and enjoyed the opportunity to silence some 60,000 Celtic fans in the ground.

Opening up on the feeling of beating your biggest rival on their own patch, Edmundson revealed he revelled in the occasion – and the celebrations.

“My adrenalin was pumping but I wouldn’t say I was nervous. I was more just thinking, ‘We can do this”, said Edmundson [Scottish Sun].

“At the corner, I just wanted to go and head the ball away as far as I could. I was more excited-nervous.

“When you are on the bench, you just want to get on and play football, so I was buzzing. The changing room was buzzing and everyone was in high spirits.

“It was great, unbelievable and one of my best days. Everybody knows that we haven’t won anything yet or done anything.

“We still have a lot of games to go so we will take every game as it comes and see where it takes us at the end of the season.”

The victory at Parkhead is a far cry from turning out against rivals Carlisle for Oldham Athletic.

Edmundson was on the receiving end of a 6-0 battering by their rivals in one the defender’s worst days in football.

Twelve months on from that humiliation with the Latics, the likeable defender says he can hardly believe that he’s now turning out for the Teddy Bears.

“After that Carlisle game, I never thought I’d be at a club like Rangers within 12 months,” said Edmundson.

“Since I moved, it has been about getting to grips with things and settling down, seeing how things work at the club and in Scotland.

“It has been a hectic 12 months but really good at the same time. Looking back at that game in Carlisle, we actually didn’t play too badly as a team.

“Even so, the mood after the game was horrendous.

“I know I only came on for four minutes at Celtic Park but I got a massive buzz out of it.

“For the gaffer to put me on shows that he has confidence in me because it is one of the biggest games in the season. I look upon that as a massive positive.

“It might only have been four minutes but it was unbelievable — one of the best games I have been involved in.”

Rangers forked out £650k to sign defender Edmundson [Mike Keegan] from Oldham in the summer and he has impressed in the short spells we’ve seen him in a Rangers jersey.

But competing with the likes of Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Filip Helander, Edmundson must take every chance he gets to impress for the Ibrox club.

Could this taste of Old Firm success be the catalyst which inspires the Rangers defender to first-team success?
