Rangers star Joe Aribo has responded to claims he plays like Premier League legends Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure by admitting he studies the pair to improve his own game.
The lanky, athletic midfielder is very highly rated and Rangers’ acquisition of the player has been described as a major coup. Not least by Gers boss Steven Gerrard.
And going by Aribo’s comments on the comparisons to the Arsenal and Manchester City heroes, it hopefully won’t take long to see why.
“Over the past few years I have heard a lot of comparisons, some people have said Yaya Toure, some people have said Vieira, so I have been looking a lot at their game and what they do on the pitch,” said Aribo, as quoted by STV.
“I saw some stuff in the papers and ex-managers have said it.
“It makes me very happy, they are both very good players and I would love to play even a little bit like them.
“It’s vital to study, you need to see what they were doing on the pitch and it will eventually help you improve.”
Aribo isn’t the only player currently on the books to have been compared to Arsenal Invicible Vieira either.
Ex-Rangers winger and former Dundee boss Neil McCann compared Gers midfielder Glen Kamara to the French World Cup winner [Daily Record] after working with the Finnish international at Dundee.
If Aribo develops into being even close to the players that Vieira and Toure once were, then Gers fans will be in for a treat.
