Rangers striker Danilo is back home after surgery on a cheekbone injury and claims he’ll be back training on the grass in “a few weeks”.

In an injury return timeline clue on his official Instagram account (19/09), it’s clear Danilo has been ordered to take it easy as his shiner of a black eye heals.

The Brazilian striker bravely put his head in to score the opening goal in a 2-0 win over St Johnstone at the weekend but had to be substituted after a clash of heads.

After the game Michael Beale confirmed the player was set to undergo surgery for a fractured cheekbone with reports suggesting he could miss a crucial run of six games.

Rangers are competing on three fronts up until the next international break on October 8th and the injury to Danilo comes at a tricky time for Michael Beale.

Taking to the stories section of his Instagram, Danilo included an image of himself and his pet dog with the caption: “Back home. The recovery begins. Back on the field in a few weeks.”

With Danilo injury comes Dessers opportunity

Going by those comments we’ll be lucky to see the striker before the next international split and the situation hands a big opportunity to the under fire Cyriel Dessers.

The Belgian-born Nigerian international forward was signed alongside Danilo this summer but it’s the Brazilian who has more impressed watching fans pre-injury.

With Antonio Colak beginning to find the net for Parma following his exit from Rangers, it’s turning the heat up on Cyriel Dessers and Michael Beale.

Given the not unsubstantial £4.5m it reportedly took to sign the striker this summer, the return of two goals in nine appearances has not been good enough and change must come soon.

With Danilo now set to be ruled out through injury, this run of six huge games for Rangers comes as a big chance for Cyriel Dessers to turn the tide of Ibrox opinion and start finding the net.
