Rangers star in 50/50 call that could see Philippe Clement striker transfer gold

Rangers are hoping that their player trading model will become more consistent and that potential targets see the club as somewhere that they can achieve all their goals.

With Philippe Clement as manager, there is a buzz about Ibrox and, after a positive January transfer window, there is hope that the club is finally heading in the right direction.

Nils Koppen has hit the ground running both in terms of incomings and outgoings and two of his new Rangers recruits have pointed the way for future transfer targets.

Jack Butland England call-up could help Rangers transfer policy

Playing in the Champions League is a big incentive, as is the ability to win trophies.

Then there is the lustre of playing at Ibrox in front of 50,000 fans every other week and that Rangers has a proven track record of selling players across the border.

If a player can achieve everything that they want to at Rangers it can only be a good thing.

The one thing missing off the list is that those who have international aspirations know that they won’t miss out if they head to the SPFL.

Jack Butland has been at the centre of a high profile “will he, won’t he?” recently with Sky Sports Michael Bridge explaining via GiveMeSport just how close he was to an England recall.

“I was told that he was extremely unlucky not to make this England squad. There was a lot of deliberating over whether him or Aaron Ramsdale should have taken that third spot.

“That tells me two things – he is doing ever so well this season, and you can get in the England squad by playing in Scotland, which is a huge plus for Rangers. I actually put him in my England squad on Sky Sports News.”

It looks like being a saga that is now likely to drag on until the summer.

Sam Johnstone is injured and set to miss the next four months, James Trafford has been dropped by Burnley and in the same boat as Aaron Ramsdale.

The decision that Gareth Southgate makes seems to be an easy one.

Butland is the only one who is playing in regularly, not only that, but he’s the only one who is in form too.

It was Sky Sports who reported that Butland was getting the call up and they clearly thought that the information they were given was good enough to make that claim.

As Bridge says, if it was a 50/50 call between Ramsdale and Butland, why would Southgate not pick someone who he knows he can rely on?

If Butland gets the call, it won’t matter if he doesn’t play in any of England’s games in the build up or the actual European Championships themselves.

For Nils Koppen and Philippe Clement, it would be another example that they can point to for any prospective new additions.

It would also mean that Jack Butland wouldn’t be in a rush to leave Rangers, putting his eight-figure valuation even higher.
