Rangers star Nathan Patterson may well have been handed an increased opportunity to break into the Scotland squad in time for Euro 2020 with squad sizes increased for the tournament.
According to the Times UEFA’s national team committee are set to increase the squads for the tournament from 23 to 26.
This means that Steve Clarke will have another three spots in the squad to include players with a number of Scottish footballers on the fringes of the national team squad.
Not least this includes talented Gers kid Patterson who appeared to have chances dashed by a combination of an SFA ban and Rangers’ Scottish Cup exit.
Patterson, 19, had a six-match suspension upheld alongside four Rangers teammates who will serve four this season with two suspended until the next campaign.
Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey, Brian Kinnear, and Dapo Mebude were all suspended for attending a house party amid a national Covid-19 lockdown.
If Rangers had made the semi-final of the Scottish Cup then Patterson would’ve been available for at least one game this season but Rangers now only have three games remaining of the campaign.

It means Patterson won’t play for the light blue of the Gers again this season but could this news see him handed an increased opportunity to play in the dark blue of Scotland?
Patterson isn’t the only Gers player who could miss out on the Scotland Euros squad after ongoing injury issues resulted in a leading Gers midfielder needing to have surgery.
