Rangers star Fashion Sakala has bitten back at “vicious” criticism from the Zambia support over his playing style.
The eccentric Ibrox attacker, 26, has taken to social media to respond to booing in a recent AFCON qualifier, which the forward described as “the worst experience of my career”.
In an emotional message, the talented Rangers star explained his role in the team and issued a defiant response to what he views as unfair treatment by the support.
One of the Zambia team’s brightest talents, Fashion Sakala is one of the country’s footballing poster boys alongside Leicester City striker Patson Daka and Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu.
Fashion Sakala rails against Zambia treatment
“Being called for National Team games has and will always be an honour to me,” writes Fashion Sakala on Instagram.
“However this time it has been very difficult and by far the worst experience of my entire career. Over the years I have endured the pain of being insulted endlessly by the Zambian fans for my style of playing, game after game.
“The game we had in South Africa on the 26th March 2023 was no different as I was brutally insulted, being called selfish etc by Zambian fans at the Stadium before the game started. I am a winger.
“I am highly trained to dribble, cause threats to opponents and have as many touches as it profits the team to have more chances and I believe that’s why I have been playing successfully in Europe for 7 years.
“I have no doubt that my performances in Europe contribute immensely in the decisions that grant me being called for National team games and to add value to the squad.
“I am very disappointed in the Zambian fans for the vicious insults and endlessly booing directed to me. I have done nothing but show hard work, sacrifice, dedication and commitment to win games for my country.

“I appreciate the support I’m receiving from my family, national team coach, the entire management, my team mates and all the fans that has shown me love and support.
“I will continue to wear my national team jersey with pride because Zambia represent unity.”
Sakala in Rangers evolution
Fashion Sakala has been involved in both of the Zambia matches during this international break, scoring in a 3-1 AFCON qualifying win over Lesotho before playing again in a 2-0 win over the same nation days later.
The attacker has made 19 caps for the Zambian national team, scoring six goals, with the striker playing for Spartak Moscow and KV Oostende in Europe before joining Rangers in 2021.
Zambia star Fashion Sakala has been effective at Ibrox too, scoring seven goals and laying on eight assists in 31 appearances this season.
Michael Beale has even been full of praise for Sakala for his recent performances, branding the attacker “unplayable” for his showing in a recent clash with Hibs.
Amid his emergence as a key player for Rangers, Fashion Sakala was also linked to Burnley in the summer but turned down the move to compete at Ibrox.
