Summer Rangers striker signing Danilo faces a race against time to be fit for the League Cup semi-final clash with Hearts at the beginning of November.

The 24-year-old Brazilian forward has been out with a fractured cheekbone following a nasty collision with St Johnstone defender Liam Gordon.

Danilo had put his head in where it hurts to put Rangers ahead in a 2-0 victory and – after costing a reported £6m in the summer – the Michael Beale signing has been sorely missed.

So much so that when Danilo returns from injury he’ll likely be playing under a different manager as Rangers continue to search for a new boss as we head into the international break.

Speaking on a Twitch stream alongside Todd Cantwell, Danilo revealed that there is a three-week timeline over his injury meaning he faces a race against time to be fit for the League Cup semi-final with Hearts on November 5th.

“The doctors saying three weeks but lets see, hope more soon,” said Danilo. “Talking with them everyday if I can join earlier, so hopefully not three weeks but earlier.”

Danilo lined up for Rangers return v Hearts

With the sort of outlay Rangers fronted up for Danilo, the club need returns and the move was considered a solid piece of business following an impressive season at Feyenoord.

The ex-Ajax and FC Twente striker netted 14 goals for the club last season as they lifted the Eredivisie title and was involved in every single match of the campaign.

However, Rangers’ summer investment in the frontline has not worked out to date with Danilo now in line to return for the must win League Cup semi-final v Hearts.

Rangers fans haven’t been able to see enough of Danilo and will be hoping the player returns in time to face Hearts and fire the incoming Ibrox manager to the League Cup Final.

Whilst many Rangers fans have started losing hope with the likes of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, Danilo hasn’t had a fair crack of the whip and the Gers support are excited to see what he can bring to the side.
