Rangers star Alex Lowry was coy on his first-team future at Ibrox amid reports that the youngster is to be awarded a new deal after bursting onto the scene with a goal in the 4-0 win over Stirling Albion
A graceful, elegant midfielder with an eye for a pass and shot, Alex Lowry would then get his first start against Livingston and but for a lack of sharpness in his teammates, would’ve contributed even more.
But this is just the beginning for the 18-year-old who has been one of the biggest success stories from the adoption of the Rangers B team in the Lowland League this season.
As a result there have been repeated calls from supporters to offer Alex Lowry a new first-team deal with reports in January suggesting the Gers were closing in on a new contract for the midfielder.
Speaking to the press ahead of the UEFA Youth League match between the Rangers and Sevilla U19s, Alex Lowry was coy on any potential contract.
“I’m just focused on football I let my agent and the club deal with that,” said Lowry [Rangers].
“It has been crazy, but something I’ve always wanted to do [making my debut] it’s part of the plan from when I first joined the club years ago.
“It’s obviously brilliant to make my debut and score as well. It has been crazy but very enjoyable as well and I’ve learned a lot.
“It has been hectic, different to my normal day with the youth team but it has been very enjoyable and I’ve learned a lot from playing with top-class players.”
Alex Lowry coy on Rangers future amid new deal talk
Every young player must stay humble after breaking through and the challenge for Lowry has been returning to second string duties after breaking into the first-team set-up.
This week the youngster dropped down to the U19s to play Sevilla’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League in a match that would show the progress made by the Ibrox youngsters.

In a similar situation only a few years ago, Rangers were humbled 4-0 by Atletico Madrid but this time around held their own in a 1-0 defeat to the talented Spanish youth side.
It’s progress that is being embodied by the development of youngsters like Nathan Patterson and Alex Lowry and let’s hope the next time the Young Gers are on the winning side against an elite academy.
Meanwhile, Rangers have been linked to a Dutch youth international winger who is out of contract come the end of the season.
