In terms of Rangers’ striker chase, they should look no further than Hibernian’s Florian Kamberi after yesterday.
The Hibs forward put on yet another stunning showing against Celtic. With Hibs 1-0 ahead, the striker showed terrific composure to bear down on goal and rifle home goal number two.
The goal was his eighth of the season and the second stunner he’s scored against Celtic this season. The big forward also netted at Parkhead back in October.
Kamberi is well on his way to racking up 10 goals in the first half of the season – he’s just two away from it. That would be even more than the nine he impressively scored during his six-month loan spell in Leith last term.
Rangers fans may also remember that Kamberi scored against them during the 5-5 draw on the final day of last season. He’s a goal-machine, and is now a proven Premiership striker.
So far at Hibs he’s scored 17 goals in total. Yes, Alfredo Morelos’ 17 strikes in half-a-season puts this in his shadow, but it’s still a mightily impressive return at a side such as Hibs.
Hibs have picked up an absolute bargain
The Swiss international was picked up by Neil Lennon from Grasshoppers in the summer for just over £100k. It’s proving to be one heck of a bargain, with seven of Kamberi’s goals this season coming in his first eight games.
He did go on a mini-slump over the last six games previous to the Celtic clash. Throughout those, the striker failed to net, but Hibs had been struggling as a whole and weren’t giving him his normal service.
The big problem with getting this deal done would be price and willigness to sell. Lennon won’t have any desire to do a deal with his long-term foes, and will likely demand an extorshinate amount.
Rangers, however, should get around the table with Leanne Dempster and Rod Petrie – Hibs’ Chief Executive and Chairman respectively. Allowing Kamberi to sign for rivals in the future could be a huge mistake. At just 23-years of age, he has so much growth in him yet, and Rangers could be picking up a sensational young talent.
Dominic Solanke and Fran Sol have been the players hitting the headlines in recent times. Meanwhile, the likes of Kamberi havn’t been getting a mention.
