Spanish forward Fran Sol is currently interesting both Rangers and Celtic ahead of January.

The news broke last night that Rangers are ready for an Old Firm tussle with their rivals for the in-form striker.

Not many will be aware of Sol’s achievements this season, but he has certainly been in fine form. He’s the second top goalscorer in the Eridivisie this term with 12 goals in 16 appearances for Willem II. The only man ahead of him is PSV Eindhoven superstar Luuk de Jong on 14 goals.

Sol is averaging a goal every 120 minutes, and is certainly worthy of Old Firm interest ahead of what’s sure to be a busy January transfer window.

His reputation is certainly a big one, and at first glance he would look out of Rangers’ price-range. Fortunately, however, the Spaniard is out-of-contract in the summer, meaning negotiations could be possible in January.

Sol joined Willem II from Villarreal back in 2016, and has scored an incredible 45 goals in 84 games for the Dutch outfit. He was also once on the books at Real Madrid as a youngster, but never came close to making their first-team.

Rangers in desperate need

Rangers are now in desperate need of a forward in January.

Umar Sadiq has been sent back to Roma. That has been confirmed by Steven Gerrard with Rangers now only having two available strikers.

Meanwhile, Kyle Lafferty continues to under-perform when given the chance. The Northern Irishman hasn’t been the hit many would’ve liked, but is the only alternative Rangers have to Alfredo Morelos.

Credit must go to Morelos, who continues to carry the goal-scoring burden with not much assistance from his strike-partner. The Colombian has 17 goals to his name this season, whilst Lafferty only has only four in 17 appearances.

Dominic Solanke has widely been tipped for a move to Ibrox in January. The Liverpool forward hasn’t featured for his club at all this season, and Rangers are keen to make the deal a goer.

Sol, however, could be a terrific alternative when you look at his pedigree. Added to that, if Rangers were to pip their rivals to him, it would be a huge plus for supporters.

It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out. Fans, however, can be excited with the standard of player being linked with the club for next month.
