Rangers boss Michael Beale has challenged Cyriel Dessers to seize his opportunity against Aberdeen – with the club’s season potentially dependent on it.

Moreover, the future of Ibrox manager Michael Beale could be about to live or die by Cyriel Dessers who so far failed to justify the reported £4.5m the club paid for him in the summer.

Having come out of the side in recent weeks, injuries to Brazilian forward Danilo and problem-plagued alternative Kemar Roofe has shone the spotlight on the former Cremonese hitman.

Michael Beale challenges Cyriel Dessers to step up

Speaking ahead of the clash with Aberdeen, Beale has challenged Dessers to find his form, win over the Rangers support and potentially save his job.

“Cyriel (Dessers) would like to do better,” Michael Beale said.

“That’s a fact. I don’t think he’s shown his full level yet. He has got three goals and a couple of assists. I think he’s been really unlucky.

“If he gets the assist against Celtic and adds that assist to his one against PSV then I think people will see him not only as a goalscorer.

“I think in moments he has shown that but of course he’s looking for a rhythm and a consistency.

“He’s been out of the team recently so it’s an opportunity for him if he plays to come in and stake a claim for sure.”

Rangers do have other options in attack with Senegalese striker Abdallah Sima emerging in recent weeks as the club’s biggest outfield success story of the summer.

But with the Brighton loanee a substantially less risky investment Cyriel Dessers must begin to show more or Rangers’ season could quickly unravel.

Against Aberdeen, Ibrox heroes have been made in the past and now the Belgian-born Nigerian international is really going to be put to the test.

The success of Cyriel Dessers in the coming weeks could not only have a huge impact on any Rangers success this season, but also on Michael Beale’s status as manager.
