Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack being called-up to the Scotland squad might split opinion amongst bluenoses and other fans in Scotland, but for Scotland boss Steve Clarke the decision was a no-brainer.

Speaking to the press when announcing his squad, Clarke spoke very positively about Ryan Jack’s performance from the end of last season to the start of this one.

On top of that, Clarke has also revealed that Jack would’ve been in the squad for the last round of fixtures against Cyrpus and Belgium had Rangers not pulled the midfielder out through injury.

“Ryan I know well from obviously as Kilmarnock manager last season and we played Rangers seven times,” said Clarke.

“So I saw Ryan up close and personal quite a lot. His form this year has carried on from the form that he had last year.

“He was invited to join the camp in the summer but Rangers pulled him out because he had an ankle issue.

“He’s started this season really well I think his form’s been good and he deserves his place in the squad.”

Jack’s form has been earning a range of plaudits from across Scottish football for his seriously commanding, positive midfield performances, not least from the club’s support and manager Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard even hinted that the time was approaching where the club might look to “reward” the player with a new contract [Scottish Sun].

The more international players Rangers have at the club, the better it is for Rangers.

It’s a testament to Jack’s performances that he’s managed to earn a place in what is such a competitive position for Scotland.
