Rangers have completed the high-profile capture of Crystal Palace scout David Hopkin as part of an ongoing overhaul of their recruitment operations at Auchenhowie.
The 55-year-old former Scotland international arrives with a reputation for identifying top domestic talent, stepping directly into the structure headed by technical director Dan Purdy.

Hopkin takes over as Rangers’ head of academy scouting, filling the vacancy left after James Fowler departed for Premier League side Newcastle United earlier this summer, according to Rangers Review.
Working directly under Purdy, Hopkin will oversee the identification and recruitment of up-and-coming talent for the club’s academy setup.
While his primary mandate is to strengthen Rangers‘ domestic scouting network, he will also supplement external talent search operations.
Jim Gillespie connection and track record
Hopkin is already a familiar figure to Rangers chief executive Gillespie, as per the Daily Record.
During his tenure leading Crystal Palace’s Scottish scouting operations, the new Ibrox appointment orchestrated the deal to bring young midfielder Dylan Reid to Selhurst Park from St. Mirren, where Gillespie was vice-chairman at the time.

The move follows the permanent appointment of Stig Inge Bjornebye as performance director, along with managerial and backroom adjustments under manager Derek McInnes.
