Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has streaked clear of the likes of France international Wissam Ben Yedder after thousands cast votes in a UEFA poll.

After an international call-up that didn’t even lead to a spot on the bench for either of Colombia’s latest two World Cup Qualifiers, Morelos was back in the Rangers team on Sunday.

He’s been badly missed in recent times and he showed that he’s still very much the main man at Ibrox with an outstanding display.

The 25-year-old scored twice and bagged an assist as third-placed Hearts were demolished 5-0 in Govan.

His display earned him big praise from supporters and it didn’t go unnoticed over at UEFA, either.

Rangers striker Morelos pitted against Monaco and Olympiacos stars in poll

They named Morelos on a shortlist of four players for their ‘Performance of the Weekend’ accolade, before followers of the official Europa League account were asked to vote in a poll.

The others shortlisted were France international and Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder, Olympiacos winger Aguibou Camara and Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Ajdin Hrustic.

Ben Yedder scored and notched an assist in a 2-0 win over Lyon, Camara did the same in a 3-0 win at Ionikos and Hrustic bagged a brace in a 3-2 win at VfB Stuttgart.

The poll is still live, but it’s fair to say that El Bufalo is going to come out on top.

That’s because, at the time of writing, after over 8000 followers had had their say, he had received a whopping 70.5% of the votes.

Ben Yedder was second on 18.5%, Hrustic third on 7.2% and Camara last on 3.8%.

If and when the Rangers star is declared the winner, it’ll be a nice reward for making such a massive impact on his return to the team.

Next up for the Gers is Hibs, a team Morelos has scored against eight times in just 16 career appearances.

Meanwhile, German partner club Hamburger SV sent a message to Rangers on Twitter over the weekend after a similarly emphatic victory of their own.
