Rangers were sent a message from German partner club Hamburger SV following both sides triumphing 5-0 on Sunday in what were two crucial league matches.

Following Rangers and HSV victories, the Germans sent an official tweet that had HSV, and Rangers split by a handshake emoji, with “winning 5-0” directly underneath in what was a nice gesture from the club.

The friendship between the two clubs runs back to the 1970s, built on the close relationship between the two sets of fans and their ties were made official in February 2021.

HSV defeated table-toppers Darmstadt to keep promotion hopes alive

The 5-0 thrashing was all the more impressive as it was away to league leaders Darmstadt, who haven’t lost a league match since early December, and this could be a catalyst for HSV to embark on a chase for the title.

A remarkable eight-minute hattrick from Robert Glatzel set the tone for the side before they had a goal ruled out for offside on the 45-minute mark, although the tie was pretty much over by then.

Manuel Wintzheimer stretched the lead to four with just under 15 minutes left on the clock before Glatzel grabbed his fourth of the afternoon in what was an astounding rout.

There are hopes that the club can finally achieve promotion and return to the Bundesliga following a four-year spell lurking in the second division.

For a club the size of Hamburger SV, who have won the European Cup and the German title on six occasions, it has been a tragically low point in their storied history.

Hopefully, both Rangers and Hamburger SV can achieve their goals this season of winning the domestic title, although it will surely prove to be a close race.

On the topic of German clubs, Rangers Euro rivals Borussia Dortmund have been sent a boost as a major player should be available for the upcoming Europa League tie.
