Rangers said goodbye to a few names over the summer.

It was Michael Beale who was the manager at the time, who decided four players were to be sold in the summer window, deemed having no place in the squad at Ibrox.

Now it is Philippe Clement at the helm, and although the Gers are in some fine form as of late, it always makes you wonder whether he’d have kept any of the names deemed surplus to requirements.

One player he’d have definitely kept who was around last season was Malik Tillman, but he probably wouldn’t have had much say in the matter.

Rangers missed out on Malik Tillman

The 21-year-old playmaker enjoyed a quite brilliant loan spell at Rangers in the 22/23 season, with 12 goals in 43 appearances for the Gers.

Rangers did have a purchase option within that agreement, which they wanted to exercise, however, his parent club Bayern realised that they could make more money elsewhere – so the deal ultimately collapsed.

A real shame, the young American is an absolute gem of a player. He’s showing just why the German giants made the decision to sell elsewhere with his newfound club for this season.

Malik Tillman now tearing it up for PSV Eindhoven

The attacking midfielder decided to try his luck in the Eredivisie this year, signing on loan with PSV Eindhoven, whilst also extending his Munich contract to 2026.

He’s picked up where he left off for Rangers – scoring goals and putting in some fine performances. Clearly, all the efforts with the PSV coaching staff are paying off on the training ground. His stats are phenomenal in the Dutch top flight this season.

It’s bittersweet from a Rangers perspective to see the youngster thriving. It’s now more of a ‘what could have been’ scenario.

Tillman was superb and continues to be. In another life, had he stayed, he could have won countless trophies and gone on to be a legend in the club’s history.
