Two first-team Rangers stars are up for a range of awards as part of a special Nigerian football awards show which is held yearly.
The Ballers Awards is an annual awards event which honours the achievements of footballers from the West African nation and it is now in its third year.
Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo and defender Leon Balogun are important players in the Super Eagles’ side and both have been nominated for a variety of gongs.
Both Balogun – an ex-Brighton defender who had a spell at Wigan last season – and Rangers star Aribo are up for the main award Baller of the Year.
They will compete with FC Midtjylland striker Paul Onuachu and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for the top prize.
Defender Balogun – who has played 32 times for the country – is also up for the Defender of the Year award where he will face off against Zaidu Sanusi of FC Porto, Ola Aina, currently on loan at Fulham from Torino, and Chidozie Awaziem, who is on loan at Boavista from FC Porto.
Midfielder Aribo – who has six caps and two goals for Nigeria – is up for the Midfielder of the Year award and will face FC Midtjylland’s Frank Onyeka, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and Stoke City’s John Obi Mikel.
According to the official website of the award show, the annual awards is set to be watched by 3m people this year [Ballers Awards].
You can bet a few of those will be Rangers fans when the date and time of the awards show is finally announced.
Joe Aribo has also been in the press this week as he praised one Rangers star who is set to return to the fold in the coming matches.
