Rangers have officially launched their new away kit for season 21/22 and it’s fair to say there have been some mixed reviews from supporters.
Castore have been charged with developing a special 150th-anniversary range as the club becomes the first major European side to reach the landmark.
This year’s away kit is a black and red number with gold lettering and a faded stripe pattern on the front, as per those kit leaks earlier in the week.
But in officially releasing the kit the club has offered more clarity as to the thinking behind the top which from a design point of view has split opinion in the support.
Rangers have launched the black and red kit to represent the club’s heritage in the burgh of Govan in Glasgow, with the colours representing the area.
This is also why Rangers traditionally wear black and red socks on their home kits.
“Inspired by our rich and proud Govan heritage, red and black have featured in club kits since the early 1900s, famously matching the colours of the burgh we made our home,” said the club.
It certainly offers more clarity as to the justification for the top but it’s clear that some certainly enjoy the design more than others.

And here’s a selection of supporters who aren’t quite as enamoured by the jersey:

Whilst some appreciate the top and others don’t, we suppose it comes down to your own personal opinion whether or not you’ll purchase it.
Like all Rangers tops, they’re generally best remembered for what is won in them and we’re sure that this effort may grow on a few as the season goes on.
Here’s how the club launched the Gers’ home kit earlier in the season, a jersey which did take some criticism but wasn’t as widely disparaged as the away top.
