Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that it is “not going to work” for Greg Docherty at Ibrox as he discussed the midfielder’s future.

Docherty moved to Ibrox in January 2018 from Hamilton for a reported £600k whilst the Gers were under the management of caretaker boss Graeme Murty.

Since then Docherty has struggled to break into Steven Gerrard’s side and with reported interest from down south, the 23-year-old could be on the move directly.

Last week Steven Gerrard admitted Hull City wanted the player saying the club had granted Greg “permission” to speak to the player [Sky Sports].

In the same interview, Gerrard claimed Docherty would not be loaned out having already “done that road”.

Docherty spent the season before last on loan at League One Shrewsbury – where he won the club’s Player of the Season – and the second half of the last campaign at Hibs.

Discussing both the future of Greg Docherty after the drab 0-0 draw with Livingston, Gerrard revealed that things were not going to work for Docherty at Ibrox.

“It’s not going to work for Greg at Rangers so we are waiting on his decision,” explained Gerrard [Scottish Sun].

The Herald are also reporting that Docherty is set to “clinch” a £400k move to League One side Hull City in the coming days.

Rangers fans have also been reacting in shock to the news that once highly-rated youth product Ross McCrorie could be heading to Aberdeen on a loan-to-buy deal.
