As Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi was scoring his fourth goal in two Old Firm matches, Rangers counterpart Alfredo Morelos was once again lamenting missed opportunities.
Whilst the disgraceful VAR decision to rule out a perfectly fine Alfredo Morelos goal continues to stink Scottish football out, it was the Japanese international and not the Colombian who stole the headlines.
Kyogo Furuhashi might’ve had limited involvement at times in the game but a deadly double sank Rangers for the second time in a row with the reported £4.6m ex-Kobe star’s finishing the difference between the sides.
Take the Japanese international out of the Celtic team and suddenly things don’t look so assured but it’s the ruthless finishing of the striker which has cut Rangers open in recent Old Firm clashes.
Alfredo Morelos failing to deliver for Rangers v Celtic
In contrast, Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has failed to take the opportunities afforded him and even with an incorrectly ruled out strike should’ve had at least one more on the day.
After a cock-up in the Celtic box Alfredo Morelos failed to capitalise, after a cock-up in the Rangers one Kyogo Furuhashi scored.
It’s been the difference in too many Old Firm games and as Morelos’ contract ticks down at Ibrox the end is surely nigh with several clubs linked and the player’s demands simply too high for his contribution.
Michael Beale has hinted as much and whilst the striker’s performance was solid enough Alfredo Morelos lacks the necessary goalscoring prowess and ruthlessness to help Rangers dominate in Scotland.
If the club is to go to the next level then they no longer rely on Alfredo Morelos week in, week out and the club needs to look elsewhere with the striker running out of chances.
The Colombian once again fluffed his lines v Celtic and just like Ryan Kent, continues to prove he is not the man to be a matchwinner and to take charge in this fixture on a consistent basis.
Over to you Ross Wilson.
