As Rangers head into the transfer market there will be no shortage of names linked to Ibrox but murmurs are persisting regarding one impressive Liverpool international.
Rangers have been mentioned alongside Welsh winger Harry Wilson in the past but this time around much of the talk appears to concern the comments of a couple of pundits.
Wilson, 24, has spent the season on loan with Cardiff City in the Championship and ended the campaign on a high note, netting a hattrick in their penultimate match and 4-0 win against Birmingham City.
Set to return to Liverpool this summer, there is much talk regarding Wilson’s future with the player at a pivotal point in his career and needing consistency following a spate of loan spells.
Wilson has also turned out for Crewe, Hull City, Derby County and AFC Bournemouth in his career to date.
Despite being contracted to Liverpool until 2023 and valued at £15m by Liverpool [Athletic], ex-Rangers star Michael Ball believes the Steven Gerrard factor could lure Wilson to Ibrox next season if other players move on.
“Steven’s got that connection with him. He knows of him, so that personal relationship could be a bonus,” said Michael Ball [This is Futbol].
“The money, we’re not too sure what they have to spend, so it all depends if any players move out as well at Rangers.
“If [Alfredo] Morelos moves on, the big money that they’ll get would give Rangers the opportunity to bring Harry and maybe a few others in.”
These comments came after pundit and ex-Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips had tipped Wilson to “shine” at Ibrox next season [Football Insider].
Both sets of comments have since spawned reams of digital copy with murmurs aplenty regarding Rangers as a potential destination for Wilson.
However, there doesn’t appear to be any official suggestion the club are interested in the player and it remains to be seen if Wilson is on Rangers’ radar this summer.
One player who is on the club’s radar will snub a host of leading European clubs to join Rangers this summer in a move which looks more impressive by the day.
